Who we are
We are a non-profit making organization established for promotion of geriatric education among the medical fraternity and the public in order to facilitate the development of elder friendly environment in health care institutions and in the community, and to organize and integrate the elderly activities carried out by various organizations for the common goal of promoting good health and well-being of the senior citizens in Sri Lanka.
What we do
As a National Association with interest to uplift the standard of living of elders in Sri Lanka, we carry out numerous activities targeting health care professionals and elders Island wide. Some of the activities are,
- Organizing activities to upgrade the standard of care received by the older people, both in the health care institutions and in the community.
- Promoting undergraduate and postgraduate medical education in Geriatric Medicine.
- Facilitating continuous education among the nursing staff and allied health care professionals in relation to Geriatric Medicine.
- Carrying out activities to enhance the quality of life of the elderly people in the community.
- Encouraging research related to care of older people.
- Collaborating with international organizations with interest in upgrading the standard of care for older people.
- Facilitating communication and exchange of knowledge of Sri Lankan health care professionals with interest in geriatric medicine with Geriatricians worldwide.
- Organizing activities to promote fellowship among members of the Association
- Facilitating coordination and collaboration of multidisciplinary health care professionals with a common goal of improving standard of care for older people.
- Working mutually with other organizations, institutions and individuals with common interests.
- Providing advocacy in achieving above mentioned objectives for the relevant sectors.
